We can definitely see Mo'Unique performing on stages worldwide. The rising artist is making moves in her city so we had to tap in. Checkout the interview below!
Westleaf Staff: What's up Mo' Unique? When did you start making music?
Mo' Unique: My interest in music was developed at an early age when I was encouraged by my sister to sing in the church choir. I enjoyed singing but I was discouraged by a family member.
Westleaf Staff: Real! The choir is a great start. So how did your early life shape your interest in music?
Mo' Unique: Initially, music was just an interest, but after graduating from Full Sail University with my associate degree in film, I realized that my passion was writing. It wasn’t until I decided to try to write for other local artists that I found out that I was good at it and began to nurture my talent.
Westleaf Staff: That's dope. Shoutout to Full Sail. What city do you represent?
Mo' Unique: (H-Town) Houston, Texas
I love it out here it's so different from Tampa, Florida.
Westleaf Staff: H-Town is a dope place. So how did you create your stage name?
Mo' Unique: I was a dancer and everything was taken. I tried everything from the stallion, passion, and strawberry but nothing said me until some called me unique and I just ran with that name.
Westleaf Staff: That's cool. So who is your biggest Musical influence?
Mo' Unique: I love old-school music from lyricists and singers such as Queen Latifah, Musiq Soulchild, Tupac, Missy Elliott, Method Man, and Destiny's Child (with four or three members). I could listen to Destiny Child's "The Writing on the Wall" album daily.
Westleaf Staff: That's dope! Got to love Destiny's Child! What's been the defining moment in your music career thus far?
Mo' Unique: I am hard on myself especially when it comes to music. I am always trying to be and do my best at everything whether it's a performance, writing a song, or just sitting in the studio. However, that moment - that defining moment comes every second I am performing because I can look into the crowds and feed people's souls with my music. There is nothing better than that.
Westleaf Staff: That's real! So what does art mean to you?
Mo' Unique: I am art! I am the embodiment of what are is defined as. From the time I began to pick out a beat until the time I am visualizing a music video. Art is always different just like I am and sometimes it's hard to explain. Just like me!
Westleaf Staff: Dope! Where do you see your music career going over the next few years?
Mo' Unique: I would love to continue to do more pop/rap music and network with other artists all over the world. I would also like to become a nominated artist and win a Grammy.
Westleaf Staff: Facts! You got this! So what makes you a unique artist?
Mo' Unique: Well, my name is Mo'Unique..... enough said!!! No, what makes me unique is that I am looking to become an unforgettable artist, not just overnight success. I could be talking about my ass or selling my cat and trust me this cat would sell but that's not my style, anymore. I like to put on a show with my music to give people something to remember.
Westleaf Staff: That's super insightful. Before we go, describe music in three words.
Mo' Unique: Powerful, Diversity, Culture.
